2/29 Battalion AIF Association; 1983.
The 2/29th Infantry Battalion was formed at Bonegilla in Victoria in October 1940, they sailed in July 1941 for Singapore. The 2/29 along with the 2/19 battalions were sent to Muar as reinforcements to the Indian Brigade, after engaging the Japanese the 2/29 and the Indian units were able to withdraw while the 2/19 held vital crossroads, constantly harried by the Japanese only 130 men of the battalion made it to the British lines. After this the battalion was reinforced and became part of the defence of Singapore. They could not stop the Japanese and surrendered on 15th February.
