PIASETSKI, SERGIUSZ.

Lover of the Great Bear.
First UK Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. xiv, 427; bound in original publishers black cloth, title lettered in gilt on spine, unclipped dustjacket showing price as 10s 6d net, dustjacket with minor wear on edges, very good copy in a very good dustjacket.
London; George Routledge & Sons, Ltd.; 1938.
This first English edition of Lover of the Great Bear by Sergiusz Piasecki captures the rugged beauty and peril of Soviet-era smuggling along the Polish-Soviet border. The translation preserves the raw, visceral prose that made Piasetski a literary sensation. The edition features striking dustjacket by William Kermode evocative of its era. Piasetski's books were banned by communist censorship in the People's Republic of Poland. The book was adapted and made into a movie by Valentino Orsini in 1971. A tale of survival, love, and betrayal, this book is a testament to Piasecki's narrative genius and a fine acquisition for the collector of historical literature. Click here to Order
