The work is notable for its wealth of illustrations, mainly by Sydney Parkinson, who went on the voyage as Banks's botanical draughtsman. Eighteen of his remarkably beautiful botanical and zoological drawings are reproduced for the first time in full colour, and there are in addition eighty plates in monochrome collotype, topographical, botanical, zoological, and ethnographical.
